Couples in a French village are refusing to have Nicolas Sarkozy at their weddings.
At the town hall in Bauvin, a village of 5,400 people in the north of France, the leftwing mayor agreed to move the president's official portrait – which must be displayed in town halls – at the request of three couples.
Christian Cambon, a member of Sarkozy's ruling right of centre UMP party, a senator and a mayor, criticised the removal, saying it was not the first time this had happened.
"The only thing that is obligatory is that the portrait is in the town hall and not necessarily in the marriage room," he added.
